When I’m craving things I shouldn’t have, (or mitigating a food hangover from having said foods) 😉, these are my go to strategies. These are super simple but work every time toward reducing cravings and improving how I feel, both physically and emotionally.
4 Balanced Body Remedies
- Exercise: if you exercise the moment you have a craving, even if for only a quick minute, your craving is more likely to go away and your craving is more likely to turn to something healthy. Exercise tends to take away the cravings, because it changes your physical state.
- Green juice: a healthy, nutrient rich green juice replaces sweet cravings and mutes your appetite. By feeding the body what it needs, cravings often disappear.
- Hydration: Lemon and/or lime water
- Fresh air and sunshine: vigorous walking, jogging, sprinting, biking or hiking in the great outdoors is an important component to a healthy body. Fresh air feeds our entire body system, and everything begins and ends in this life with breath.
If you can’t do all four of these, then do what you can, when you can, and you will feel better.

Recover from Binges

- If you drink coffee, try butter coffee after morning exercise

Between Christmas and mid-February, I consume more treats than any other time of the year because of the holidays followed by a series of family birthdays, which generally get stretched out over the weekend.
During these times, I allow myself to enjoy the extra treats without worrying too much about the subsequent few extra pounds. Of course, my ideal version of myself would ONLY consume healthy foods and treats, but I haven’t yet completely merged with her. 😊 However… thankfully, it’s a FAR cry from my bulimic 20’s!
But it’s imperative for my physical, emotional and mental wellbeing to keep the body healthy. So I balance out the treats with strong doses of very healthy foods, supplements and green juice, water, alkalinization, exercise and fresh air.

Green Juice: Spinach Celery Bell with Ginger, Flax and Chia
This is one of our go-to green juice recipes.
- 3 cups Spinach
- 4 stalks Celery
- 1 medium green Apple
- 1 large Green Bell Pepper (or two small)
- 1 inch Ginger (or sub with two teabags soaked in 1/2c boiling water)
- 1 TBS each of: Flax seed, Chia seed, Lime Juice, Lemon Juice
- 3 cups 100% Coconut Water (approx)
Add celery, apple, bell pepper and a cup of coconut water, blend on highest speed your blender allows for about 1-2 minutes. Next add spinach, flax seeds, chia seeds, lime & lemon juice and ginger. Blend again on high until it’s smooth. Then add rest of coconut milk and given it another quick whirl.
If you don’t have fresh ginger, you can steep two tea bags of organic ginger tea in 1/2 cup of boiling water and let it sit while you prep and blend the rest of the green juice. Then you can blend it at the end. It’s going to taste a lot more mild than fresh ginger but it’s a good substitute.
Blending all the veggies with a minimal amount of coconut water helps it become super smooth. But if you want to just throw it all in and blend it up in one go it all tastes the same.
